The Holiday cottage

Kitchen and dining: A small conservatory leads to the dining/kitchen with a large farmhouse table, old pine dresser and modern kitchen units with wooden worktops and Belfast sink. There is a bottled gas cooker, a fridge and walk-in pantry.



Living rooms: The sitting room has frenchdoors, a wood burning stove and is comfortably furnished to include free satellite tv and wi-fi is available throughout the house.



Bedrooms: Stairs lead out of the kitchen to the first floor where there are 2 double bedrooms. 

A further steeper flight of stairs leads to 2 further bedrooms each with 2 single beds. In one room the beds are 3'0" wide whereas the other doubles as a study and the beds in this room are 2'6".



Bathrooms: Shower and wc on first floor.

Heating: There is a wood burning stove in the sitting room. Hot water is from an immersion heater and there are electric panel heaters to supply background heating if it is a little cool.



Entertainment: Freesat television, cd player and iPod speaker/docking station.

If you look in the drawers you will find an abundance of games, drawing materials and jigsaws - this is a family house!

Wi-fi is available throughout the house.



Garden and outside: Large garden laid mainly to grass with bbq area.



Parking and garages: Ample parking in garden. Barn with cycles for guests' use.



Visitor suitability: Steep stairs to second floor.

Geoff and Denise have owned the house for many years and have lovingly restored this historic village building tastefully and sympathetically. Now our family are growing up we are giving others the opportunity to stay in the beautiful coastal village of St. Germain-sur-Ay

Location and surroundings

Saint-Germain-sur-Ay is one of only a handful of villages on the west coast of the peninsula within the Parc Naturel Regional des Marais du Cotentan. The house is on 3 floors and will sleep 6/8 people comfortably. A travel cot is available and an extra child could be accommodated upon request. Large sandy beaches are a short distance away and there is a village shop and bar at the end of the road. The house is about 100 yards from the coastal path (GR223) and the saltmarshes.



A holiday in Saint-Germain means that you can be as lazy or as active as you like. 



A walk round the village takes about 25 minutes. This includes walking along the side of the marsh, taking an apple for the donkey, feeding the ducks on the village pond and back through the village lanes. On this walk you pass La Ferme Des Mares restaurant. Highly recommended, the owner/chef, Mike, is English and, if you don't want to book a table he may be able to prepare a meal for you to take back to the house! Do tell him where you are staying. 



There are local walks and cycle rides from the house and the beaches are large and usually empty. Horse riding, donkey riding, sand yachting, canoeing, golf - all available within a half hour car ride. Visit markets, chateaux and other historic buildings. We are just one hour away from the Normandy landing beaches and 1.25 hours from Bayeux with its famous tapestry. There are many excellent restaurants within easy reach.
